SDG 17 FAQ Page
17.2.1 - Does your university have direct involvement in, or input into, national government or regional nongovernment organisations SDG policy development?

Yes, Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU) has been directly involved in national and regional SDG-oriented policy development and implementation, particularly in areas related to SDG 1 (No Poverty) and SDG 2 (Zero Hunger).

NSTU successfully completed two major applied research projects that have contributed to policy formulation and sustainable development strategies in the aquaculture sector of Bangladesh:

1. Cage Culture of Tengra Fish (Mystus tengara):
This project identified the challenges of low productivity and income instability among small-scale fish farmers and developed an innovative cage-culture model suitable for coastal and inland water systems. The findings supported local and regional authorities in promoting smallholder aquaculture entrepreneurship, addressing food security, and generating sustainable livelihoods.

2. Development of Nutritionally Balanced Crab Feed:
NSTU researchers developed a scientifically formulated crab feed to replace imported alternatives, lowering costs and improving productivity in crab hatcheries. The research outcomes contributed to policy discussions and guidelines for sustainable crab farming practices in Bangladesh, helping to reduce poverty and improve nutritional outcomes in coastal communities.

These initiatives involved problem identification, applied research, model development, and input to policy-level decision-making, supporting government and regional organizations in designing effective interventions.
