Developing countries like Bangladesh is facing serious problem of ensuring sufficient safe & nutritious foods to cater the need of common people. Moreover, the country is under massive threat of non-communicable disease burden along with emergence of different communicable diseases which are putting a lot of pressure on existing health system, hence aggravating the progress of this country. To tackle those disease burdens it is imperative to inform, aware & educate people to the importance of having good varied diet, be physically active and maintaining standard of living. This has necessitated the service of huge number of skilled and educated manpower in the field of Food technology & Nutrition Science.
Food Technology and Nutrition Science (FTNS) Department therefore has come up to take the challenge of this crucial issue with an aim to produce skilled and educated manpower in this sector. Within a very short period, FTNS already demonstrated its outreach excellence through establishing linkages with various government, non-government, national and international organizations for research, extension and developmental activities. There is an ever-increasing demand for our graduates and all the faculty members are working tirelessly to match the responsibilities this country has bestowed upon them to create leaders of this field.
Government has already declared the vision 2021 (better nutritional status of mothers and children, community involvement to improve health services, adoption and maintenance of healthy lifestyle) for the digitalization of the country. In addition to achieve sustainable development goals nutrition and public health can a major part in collaboration with other related sectors like agriculture, economics, social welfare and education . I strongly belief that FTNS Dept will play a significant role to fulfill the vision by producing science based efficient manpower and enlightened citizen.
