Experiences and Activities

I conducted a thesis titled “Resilience of households in risk-prone coastal areas of Bangladesh” using primary data during my study tenure 2017-18. This research aimed to study the resilience of households and explore the best way to adapt and suggest how to show resilience towards climate change effects in selected climate vulnerable areas in the coastal region. The outcome has an impact on the increase viable adaptation practices and options for finding adaptation strategy, ideas from the inhabitants of the risk-prone area.

My job in Hellenkeller International in 2011-12, I am involve at the  project of the HKI’s approach is to develop, pilot and test new community models that prevent blindness and malnutrition. Once we have a successful model, we work closely with local and national governments and organizations to integrate the intervention into the health care infrastructure and take it to full scale so that millions of people in need are reached.

As the Nutrition Integration Officer, my responsibilities were:

  •  Conducted qualitative research according to research protocol.
  •  Interviews of Health facility Staffs and beneficiaries
  •  Observation of Health facility Staffs and beneficiaries
  •  Assist transcribing and translating recorded interview
  •  Data coding and analysis in Atlas.ti
  •  Logistic supply and maintain and distribute
  •  Assist supervisor in translating and developing questionnaire and reports
  •  Communicate with MAMONI and SSFP staff

I worked as a field research officer on BFRF's(Bangladesh Fisheries Reseach Foundation)  Project Name: Impact of Aquaculture and Fisheries related activities on Household Food Consumption and Nutritional Status of Adivasi (ethnic minorities) Children and Adolescent girls in North and North-West Bangladesh

  • Undergoing 30 days’ intensive training
  • Collecting anthropometric, dietary and socio-economic data from households in three under-privileged districts of Bangladesh.
  • Collecting and analysing biochemical samples (salt and urine)from survey respondents
  • Data entry and analysis using SPSS
  • Production of a report and verbal presentation of the findings

Research Topic: Health System and Community Capacity Assessment for Community-Based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) Integration in Bangladesh

Key responsibilities:

  • Translation of documents
  • Assisting in the preparation and facilitation of workshops, interviews and focus group discussions, undertaking translation during workshops/interviews/FGDs and transcription of the proceedings
  • Communicating the nature of objective of the research to the local authorities and communities
  • Keeping the Principal Investigator informed of goings on in the community that may have implications on the research and/or ACF’s work through gathering relevant information

  • Analysis of protein content took place in the Food Grain and Nutrition Quality Lab, Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI)
  • Analysis of moisture, ash and total lipid content took place in various labs at the Institute of Nutrition and Food Science (INFS), University of Dhaka

Project Title: “Understanding the Experiences of Food and Nutrition Situation in Selected Rural Areas of Northern Bangladesh”

  • Data collection took place in three under-privileged villages in Chilmari, Kurigram (Northern Bangladesh) in collaboration with Terre Des Hommes
  • Data collection involved 10-day extensive field survey after 30 days of extensive training; it comprised (i) anthropometric, dietary and socio-economic status determination; and (ii) biochemical sample (salt and urine) collection and analysis
